Project description

Fortescue Metals Group engaged Monford to undertake bulk earthworks and detailed earthworks for the Solomon Mine project in the Pilbara, Western Australia. As head contractor, Monford also coordinated and executed all traffic management, and implemented its rigorous safety, quality and environmental management plans and systems.

Scope of work

  • Detailed earthworks (186,000m3) to finish the previously established bulk earthworks pad to the required finished levels and falls
  • Placement of pavement and structural fill (89,950m3) to accept future buildings and proposed traffic flows, including monthly material testing and survey control/survey pick-up
  • Civil and earthworks to establish various sizes of traffic and pedestrian windrows (5,575m)
  • Supply and install traffic controls
  • Civil and earthworks to establish the clean and dirty water catchment drains, including rock protection (1,258m2)
  • Civil and earthworks to excavate, form and trim a sediment basin to tie in to the drainage channels (71,220m3)
  • Civil and earthworks, including supply and install to establish the required drainage culverts, including necessary traffic management to close or re-direct operational roads
  • Supply and install 11 HV/LV bollards
  • Install process water, raw water, saline water, oily water, fire water, potable water and sewer system piping (7,725m)
  • Commissioning and testing of installed equipment
